Today’s wisdom, from President Lincoln

This story is told by the hearer, of a day shortly before the assassination of the 16th President of the United States.

Upon entering the president’s office, his close friend (and Bible skeptic) Joshua Speed questioned WHY he was wasting his time reading the Bible.

Mr. Lincoln’s response is legendary. He placed his large hand on Speed’s shoulder, smiled, and said the following:

“If you will take as much of this book on reason as you can, and the rest on faith, you will live a long and happy life.”

And that’s a great way for any of you who struggle with minor details of Christianity to approach the Bible.

Don’t worry about the physical or timing details of Genesis 1-2.

Don’t sweat the details of Noah’s Ark and the great flood.

Don’t spend too much time frustrated over the details of Revelation.

Take everything out of Scripture that you can by REASON and LOGIC. Whatever remains, let your FAITH IN GOD cover for you. If you are a Believer in Christ, believe in what He says, and He has told us that everything in Scripture is true. You don’t have to understand it right now – all will become clear to us when we see Him face-to-Face in Heaven someday.

Use your faith to accept whatever you cannot accept with your powers of reason, and “live a long and happy life”.
